Make a Twist




Make a twist® is a concept and a brand, thought created and registered by the company Formtools®.

The Formtools is a design studio geared primarily for projects of three-dimensional character.
Whether designing signage, packaging, products, equipment, stands or interiors, whether in brand or private context. We`ve ben working individually or collectively, directly or indirectly, over the past few years, with some of the most interesting and important Portuguese agencies and brands.
Among the first: BAR, Born, Brandia, Desafio Global, Ivity, Label, McCCann, RMAC, Santa Fé, Strat, etc. ...
Among the latter: EDP, Galp, Microsoft, Optimus, Sagres, Sonae, TAP, Vodafone, ZON, etc ...

The Formtools was founded in 2007 by:

Interior designer pre Bologna IADE.
For over twenty years, she believes in promoting the practical sense of design to final customers.
She studied classical music, but grew up listening to Amália (Fado).
Despite not liking sardines and not fancy pasteis de nata,
considered Lisbon yolk and can not imagine living in another city that Lisbon.
His favorite hobby is cooking for friends without Bimby (but without prejudice).
For the past twenty years she discovered that her way of designing needed personal contact with the customer. She realized this in her first interior design projects working as a freelance.
Her work begins in Grupo Dimensão as designer/commercial working with brands like Alessi , Moroso , Magis , Kartell , Iittala ...
Passes through Loja do Banho as a commercial and responsible for the project area. Leaves five years later, to work as responsible of the Loja do Banho II (store dedicated to premium segment of brands and architecture firms). Works with brands like Boffi , Duravit , Agape , Catalano ...
After this project returns again to pure project, working in AzurAmbiente and in partnership with a large architectural office on the design of some reference SPAs, like Vila Joya (Albufeira), As Cascatas Golf & Spa Resort (Hilton Vilamoura), Myriad by SANA Hotels (Lisbon), The Vine Hotel (Funchal), among others ...
Then returns to the sanitary equipment and big brands as responsible of the showroom in the Estúdio Água project in Lisbon.
In 2007 creates Formtools with Pedro, who is responsible for the interior design projects and the commercial area.


Pedro Gonçalves
42 years
He studied Mechanical engineering (3rd year) and Architecture (4th year), but only had the time and patience (or device) to graduating in Industrial design.
Born above the Tejo river, but says it`s from Alentejo by ad(option).
Reve up in the contradictions of Fernando Pessoa and diversity of Kubrick.
Loves to "jump" from Chet Baker to Bach and through hearing Bjork and Radiohead.
For over twenty years he`s being doing project for measurement of customers, whether they Galp, Vodafone, TAP, EDP ...
Began in Grupo Dimemsão as art director,
But quickly went to the plastics industry in Figueira da Foz,
where he designed components for car interiors.
Entered in Novodesign and left seven years later alread in Brandia as industrial designer.
Passed through Santa Fé and founded L2PG with his friend Luis Patrocinio.
It was invited as a partner and director for the 3D design department in Label-brand studio.
In 2007 creates the Formtools with Ana, who is responsible for the industrial design projects and the production area.



If we had to select five projects that marked the route of Formtools® in recent years, with all that this decision have in difficult and thankless,
this would be a possible selection:

- Designing the Candelmaker* and all its accessories (*machine that makes candles from wasted oils).
By the unique character of innovation and sustainability that involved the entire project and process, which culminated in a Red Hot and IF award
for formtools and OON (the creator of the concept).

Designing the Sagres troph league cup (the national first division football championship), with McCCann agency.
By defiant character, excellence, exclusivity and difficulty in producing the required unique piece.
 2009/2010 Portuguese football Championship -  delivery of the trophy video  

Designing the packaging for Popota kit, with the Born agency.
By the nature, opposite to the previous, but no less defiant in simplicity, scope and difficulty of production. That requires a piece produced on this scale
and with a mandatory minimum cost.

Designing the TAP- Portuguese air company stand for BTL exhibition, with McCCann agency.
By the unusually clean/sober character that was acheved, even in a typically difficult environment such as the trade fair ones (merit shared with my friend Bezerra).
This project also won the prize for best stand BTL that year.

Designing the interior of the agency office BAR, on Páteo Bagatela in Lisbon.
By the way we turned the difficulty in virtue. How is was managed to combine four views (3 different views from the client partners plus our) apparently divergent (sometimes almost antagonistic) in a result that seems impossible today to have been otherwise.
And being at the same time, the truly expression of their owners.
